OpenEP Research Laboratory

We are a computational electrophysiology research laboratory developing open methods to analyse and understand cardiac electrophysiology.

Our research focuses on creating open platforms and computational tools to enable clinicians and scientists to analyse, visualise and interpret complex cardiac electrophysiology data.

Our work is delivered through the OpenEP ecosystem. We develop, maintain and support EP Workbench - the most advanced cross-platform electrophysiology analysis platform.

  • Data Integration: Import electrophysiology data from multiple clinical and research platforms, including openEP, openCARP, CVI42 and VTK formats.

  • Interactive visualisation: Explore cardiac electrophysiology data on three-dimensional anatomical models.

  • Computational analysis: Apply advanced algorithms to analyse electrophysiology datasets and extract activation patterns, conduction properties and other electrophysiology features.

  • Scalable workflows: Run analyses locally or integrate with high-performance computing infrastructure to process large electrophysiology datasets at scale.

  • Extensible platform: Develop and integrate custom algorithms through a modular architecture that supports plug-in analysis methods for new workflows.

Our Platforms

  • OpenEP

OpenEP is an open-source computational framework for analysing cardiac electrophysiology data. It provides the core infrastructure for data processing, electrophysiology analysis and integration with computational modelling environments.

  • EP Workbench

EP Workbench is a cross-platform graphical interface built on the OpenEP framework. It enables clinicians and scientists to visualise, analyse and process electrophysiology datasets through an intuitive interactive environment.

  • OpenEP|NET

OpenEP|NET is a secure research infrastructure that enables collaborative analysis of electrophysiology data across institutions. It supports federated data access, reproducible research workflows and large-scale electrophysiology studies. Go-live: 2026.
